Jul 22, 2023Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes Auckland Islands
An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 has struck New Zealand’s Auckland Islands, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) says.
The magnitude of Wednesday’s quake was initially reported at 5.7 but was later revised.
NZ’s GeoNet monitoring agency said the quake struck at a depth of 33km. There was no immediate tsunami warning and no reports of damage on the New Zealand mainland.

In April, three earthquakes, one at a magnitude 7.2, occurred in the seas off the North Island.
The most powerful struck in the Kermadec Islands region.
The Auckland Islands lie 465km south of NZ’s South Island port of Bluff.
